One of the features of this season's chess will be the appearance of Mr. Jose R. Capablanca, who is making an extensive tour through the United Slates, Canada, Mexico and Panama.
Mr. Capablanca, former champion of Cuba, is now a resident of New York city, where he has but recently finished a course at Columbia university. At the age of sixteen, this young expert, at present In his twentieth year, won the championship of Cuba, and met with success the present world's champion, Emanuel Lasker. Coming to this country four years ago to attend Columbia he has added to his reputation and strength as a player in the intercollegiate and metropolitan contests.
On Thursday evening, January 21, Mr. Capablanca will give a simultaneous exhibition of chess against all comers under the auspices of the Detroit Chess and Checker club at its clubrooms in the Hall block, Room 11, corner of Michigan and Griswold avenues.
