AThe Buffalo Sunday Morning News Buffalo, New York Sunday, January 03, 1909 - Page 15 — Chess Champion Coming Here Soon — Local chess enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the coming of Jose R. Capablanca, the famous young New York chess player, who will be in Buffalo for an exhibition on Jan. 18. Mr. Capablanca will start on a tour of the country on Jan. 6, giving his first exhibition at Washington, D.C., the trip lasting until the latter part of February, and taking in most of the important cities of the country.
Mr. Capablanca's Buffalo exhibition will be under the auspices of the Cosmopolitan Chess Club, at 439 William street, and all Buffalo chess players are invited to send their addresses to this club in order that invitation may be extended to them to witness or take part in Mr. Capablanca's tourney. The Buffalo Cosmopolitan Chess Club is at the present time the only organization of its kind in Buffalo which is purely a chess club, excluding from its rooms all other games.
According to the American Chess Bulletin Mr. Capablanca, who is only 20 years of age, promises to become a second Morphy, standing now with but few rivals of his ability in this country.
