AThe Sun New York, New York Saturday, January 09, 1909 - Page 8 — Frank J. Marshall Home. American Chess Player Returns After Extended Foreign Tour. — Frank J. Marshall, America's only representative in the international chess tournaments abroad, returned home yesterday, landing from the steamship Batavia in Hoboken at noon. Accompanying him were Mrs. Marshall and his little son, Frank Rich Marshall, who celebrated his third birthday on board ship. On January 6 also Mr. and Mrs. Marshall celebrated the fourth anniversary of their marriage. The Marshall family had been absent since May 1907, and in the interim the master has played in tournaments at Carlsbad, Vienna, Prague, Dusseldorf and Lodz. At Dusseldorf he won the first prize for the third time without losing a game at Lodz he was placed a close second to Rubinstein, champion of Russia. In addition he has played matches and series of games with Janowski, Rubinstein, Mieses, Gregory and Kruger, winning against the last three and losing the others.
At Hamburg Marshall gave exhibitions for six days and learned that arrangements were being made to hold an international masters' tournament there in 1910. He will play. At 2 o'clock this afternoon Marshall will begin a series of three games with José R. Capablanca, the young Cuban expert, for a purse provided by Felix F. Kahn of the Manhattan Chess Club. Subsequently Marshall will meet all comers in simultaneous play at the Manhattan, Rice and Brooklyn chess clubs and at the New York Athletic Club.

To which I replied: “Really? I think he [Bob Fischer] stood up to the broken system of corruption and raised awareness! Whether on the Palestinian/Israel-British-U.S. Imperial Apartheid scam, the Bush wars of ‘7 countries in 5 years,’ illegally, unconstitutionally which constituted mass xenocide or his run in with police brutality in Pasadena, California-- right here in the U.S., police run rampant over the Constitution of the U.S., on oath they swore to uphold, but when Americans don't know the law, and the cops either don't know or worse, “don't care” -- then I think that's pretty darn “sad”. This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.
March 9, 1943 - January 17, 2008The photograph of Bobby Fischer (above) from the March 02, 1956 The Tampa Times was discovered by Sharon Mooney (Bobby Fischer Newspaper Archive editor) on February 01, 2018 while gathering research materials for this ongoing newspaper archive project. Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
