Boys' Life - Jan 1957
Here are the Tops In 1956.
Archers and Artists, golfers and geniuses, America's juniors performed brilliantly. — Take a pair of mental wizards such as Bobby Fischer and Fred Safier. Bobby demonstrates his talent over a chess board—or more accurately—over chess boards. The thirteen-year-old chess master from Brooklyn thinks nothing of taking on a dozen or more opponents at one time. Last March, he played a five-hour, twenty-one-board simultaneous exhibition at Jersey City. His record: nineteen wins, one draw, and one loss. Bobby's in demand for public appearances and even appeared on television to demonstrate his amazing skill. Last winter, he went to Havana, Cuba, for a twelve-board exhibition, winning ten and scoring two draws. The youngest member of the Manhattan Chess Club, Bobby has his eye on the national championship.
Not as dramatic as Bobby Fischer but just as amazing…
